Streaming platforms are always trying to block VPN connections in different countries due to licensing agreements. A powerful and reliable VPN can get around those geo-restrictions to make sure you can view your favorite content.
You’ll want a VPN provider with fast speeds, multiple security features, lots of server locations, unlimited bandwidth, and the ability to operate on multiple operating systems. Whether you’re accessing a U.S. server or are traveling and just need a single-month plan, one of these top VPN apps can ensure you’re safe from malware as well as grant you access to your favorite TV shows.

ExpressVPN: Best for covering all devices
- Premium VPN offering strong security and ultra-fast speeds
- Strict no-logs policy with independent audit
- In-house Lightway protocol for more speed and security
- More expensive than NordVPN, Surfshark, and CyberGhost
Who it’s best for
Along with covering up to eight devices with its VPN app, ExpressVPN can cover all your devices with its proprietary Aircove router. Having a VPN on your router allows you to protect devices that may not support its service on their own because a VPN encrypts all traffic that runs through it.
A smartTV without a VPN configuration is one example, but you can also use ExpressVPN for smart home devices like speakers (think Alexa) that don’t come with coverage.
Even though ExpressVPN is the only VPN on our top three list with device restrictions, you won’t have to worry about that if you use the Aircove. The router counts as one device, so you can blanket everything in your home in VPN protection without using up your device allotment.
What we liked
ExpressVPN is powerful. It’s fast, unblocks streaming, and has so many options in regard to features and server choice. ExpressVPN even built its own VPN protocol, Lightway, that it suggests you use first for optimal privacy.
For even more privacy, ExpressVPN uses RAM-only servers that are wiped clean after each use. This means none of your data is being written onto a hard drive.
We also like that ExpressVPN offers all of the advanced features like split tunneling and a kill switch, which you’d expect from a quality VPN. The Threat Manager feature even stops trackers and malicious third parties by not allowing suspicious apps and sites to connect. This helps protect your identity and online activity even more than a VPN without tracker blockers.
What we didn’t like
We’re not in love with the fact that you still need an ExpressVPN subscription to use the VPN with your Aircove router. We were hoping at least the first-year plan would be included with the purchase, but that’s not the case.
The router still works if you don’t have a subscription, but you won’t have VPN coverage. Since ExpressVPN is one of the more expensive options, it’s a bummer this is the only VPN company with a proprietary router. Configuring a VPN on your router can be a pain, so this is an easy option.
Speaking of price, ExpressVPN is the most expensive option on this list. You definitely get what you pay for, but there are other VPNs that cost a little less per month and are still powerful. Hopefully, in the future, ExpressVPN will offer a bundle deal for the router and VPN service, if only an introductory one.

Surfshark: Best for most server locations
- VPN technology offering stability and speed
- Unlimited simultaneous connections
- Works with Netflix and other streaming services
- Headquarters in Nine Eyes Alliance
Who it’s best for
If you want the most location options, Surfshark has 100+ countries on its server list. That’s a lot of countries compared to PIA’s 84 countries and ExpressVPN’s 94. If you’re looking for the most variety at a relatively low price, Surfshark will get you there. The real question is, can you watch it all?
What we liked
Surfshark is always looking to add more to its platform. This year alone, it’s gone from having over 90 countries on its server list to having over 100, which is a lot of Marvel content in a lot of different languages.
The price is great, and Surfshark offers a lot of features. It also offers simultaneous connections so you can cover every device.
Surfshark isn’t just a VPN, either. You can bundle Surfshark Antivirus, identity theft protection, a private search engine, and the alternative ID product that creates a new online identity for you as well as Incogni, which helps remove your data from data broker sites across the web. It’s a comprehensive security solution to keep you safe online.
What we didn’t like
All of the extra products you can bundle with the VPN do cost more. For everything together, the monthly cost can get pretty pricey and doesn't decrease if you purchase multi-year packages. Otherwise, Surfshark is reasonably priced.

Price range | $1.99–$19.99/mo |

Private Internet Access: Best for price
- VPN offering fast internet speeds and strict no-logs policy
- Unblocks Netflix and other streaming services
- Antivirus and dedicated IP address cost extra
Who it’s best for
Private Internet Access (PIA) is a strong VPN with a great price. When we first started using it, there was a 10-device limit. Now, however, you get a low-cost VPN that performs at a premium level with unlimited simultaneous access. If you want to cover a lot of devices but don’t want to pay premium prices, PIA is a great choice.
What we liked
We love the price, first of all. It starts at $2.03/mo, but even if you pay $7.50/mo month-to-month, PIA is still one of the best-priced options. We’re also fans of its speed, versatility, and ability to unblock streaming services. PIA is easy to install and set up, and we’ve used it on Macs, Windows PCs, iPhones, and Android.
PIA has a lot of amazing features as well. You’ll be able to legally use a VPN to torrent, split tunnel your traffic, and hide from trackers. If you’re looking for a bundle, there’s even an opportunity to purchase PIA’s antivirus software and a dedicated IP address. While PIA doesn’t offer a proprietary router, you can still install it on your VPN-capable router to enjoy coverage of devices that don’t usually allow for VPNs.
What we didn’t like
There isn’t much to not like. We wish it were easier to install PIA on a router, but that’s not completely on PIA. Maybe it’ll take a page from ExpressVPN’s book and come out with some proprietary hardware.
Also, if you want antivirus and a dedicated IP address, you’ll have to pay an additional fee. But neither of these are deal breakers for us when considering PIA for our VPN needs.

Honorable mentions
These three VPNs are powerful, great for streaming, and extremely secure. If the three options we named for you aren’t a great option, then one of these is definitely worth a try. All of these are streaming approved!
- CyberGhost: CyberGhost is one of the best VPNs for streamers. It has so many optimized servers for streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, or Amazon Prime Video, as well as non-American services like BBC iPlayer, Eurosport Player, and SkyGo. It offers optimized servers for torrenting and gaming as well. And if you prefer to simply browse, CyberGhost protects you even then.
Get CyberGhost | Read Our CyberGhost Review - NordVPN: You may be wondering why NordVPN didn’t make our top three, but that’s only because we wanted to offer you a variety. NordVPN is always at the top of everyone’s list when it comes to great VPNs. Not as pricey as ExpressVPN but pricier than most competitors, NordVPN offers other services like NordLocker cloud storage and NordPass password manager that you can use across all your devices.
Get NordVPN | Read Our NordVPN Review - Proton VPN: We love a great VPN, especially one that offers a free version that has as much power and functionality as the paid tiers. Proton VPN definitely falls in that category. Whether you’re a Star Wars fan streaming The Mandalorian on Disney Plus or The Last of Us on HBO, you can do it with Proton VPN without bandwidth caps or buffering.

Best VPNs for Disney Plus FAQs
Which free VPN is best for Disney Plus?
Proton VPN is the best free VPN for Disney Plus. It doesn’t have speed or data caps like most other free VPN services. It also offers a no-logs policy and no advertisements.
The only downsides are that its free plan only offers three countries on its server list, and you can only connect on one device. But if you’re looking for encryption rather than unblocking geo-restricted content, this is a great option. Check out our Proton VPN review for more details.
Can a VPN trick Disney Plus?
Not every VPN unblocks streaming services. Most free VPNs and VPNs included with your antivirus software usually aren’t powerful enough to trick Disney Plus. Paid VPN services with streaming-optimized servers, dedicated IP addresses, and smart DNS technology are much more likely to unblock streaming content.
Does Disney Plus work with NordVPN?
Yes, Disney Plus works with NordVPN. NordVPN is great for unblocking Disney Plus and other streaming services. NordVPN integrates SmartPlay into its platform across all operating systems so you don’t have to worry about configuring your VPN for streaming — it’s automatically available to you.
What’s the fastest VPN for Disney Plus?
We found the fastest VPN for gaming and streaming is Surfshark. We experienced little to no slowdown during testing, and it easily unblocked Disney Plus in a variety of regions. Since Surfshark also allows unlimited simultaneous connections, you can stream in one part of the house while your cousin who’s visiting can stream in another. You can hang out together after you're finished streaming.
How do I change my Disney+ region?
Your Disney Plus region is determined by your IP address and where that’s accessing the internet. Unless you plan on traveling, the only way to change your Disney Plus location is to change your IP address. While you can use a proxy server or a Tor browser, the easiest way to change it is with a VPN.
Bottom line: The best VPNs for Disney Plus
Our top three choices as well as our honorable mentions, are some of the best VPNs available anywhere. It’s also great that they all work unblocking content on Disney Plus. ExpressVPN makes things easy with a preinstalled VPN router, Surfshark opens up a literal world of content to you through its expansive server network, and PIA VPN keeps it affordable with unlimited connections for a low price.
If you choose any of these products, you’ll enjoy regional Disney content from anywhere you want. And if you don’t love the product you choose, they all have at least 30-day money-back guarantees and great customer support that allows you to try another VPN. Make sure you have the best VPN for you and enjoy the protection and features that make VPN usage popular worldwide.

How to watch Disney Plus with a VPN
First, you’ll need a VPN connected to the device you want to stream from. There are a lot of different ways to access Disney Plus, but they all start with having an active VPN set to the location you want.
Once you’ve turned on your VPN and chosen your server, all you’ll need to do is open the Disney Plus app. If you’re watching online on a computer, you can navigate to the website and begin watching.
If your TV isn’t VPN enabled, you’ll need to install your chosen VPN onto your router or external device like a Roku or Fire Stick. Since every router, external device, and smart TV has different settings, the best bet is to check out our VPN setup guides:

How we tested the best VPNs for Disney Plus
We tested these VPNs with the Disney Plus website and app on our MacBook, Windows PC, and iPhone to see if they really worked on multiple platforms and chose the ones we felt were best for streaming in this particular case.
We can happily report that macOS, Windows, and iOS all run each VPN smoothly and without issue. Since most of the problems with software tend to happen on Apple devices, we’re confident that any of these options will work on an Android, seeing as they all work well on Apple’s platforms.
